MONTVALE, NJ, – May 25, 2013 – Health Monitor Network, the nation’s leading patient-education company, as part of its long-term partnership with the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), is excited to announce that Kyra Downing, a Physician Assistant from Glasgow Family Practice in Newark, DE, is the 2013 winner of the patient-nominated LifeChanger Award (formerly known as PA-Patient Hero of the Year Award).
Downing was nominated by one of her patients, who thanked Downing in a letter for giving her a second chance. Because of Downing’s attention to detail and persistence—she insisted the patient, who complained of anxiety, undergo a battery of diagnostic tests—an underlying cardiac condition was detected and she subsequently underwent potentially life-saving open heart surgery. “I’ve been given a second chance. Thank you, Kyra Downing, for being an excellent PA,” writes Linda H., the patient.
Kyra Downing practices in Newark, DE, and has been a PA for four years. She graduated from Philadelphia University in 2008 and has been working in family practice since, currently with United Medical Clinic. Downing is a member of both the Academy of Physician Assistants and the Delaware Academy of Physician Assistants.
“We have enjoyed a wonderful partnership with the American Association of Physician Assistants over the last six years,” mentioned Dave Dolton, Vice President of Health Monitor Network. “Our organizations have collaborated on a number of compelling multimedia patient-education programs created by Health Monitor Network, increasing value to AAPA members and their patients. Our digital and print programs do the job they are designed for: to help patients communicate better with their healthcare team in order to achieve a more informed level of care.”
“We are excited to collaborate on this Award as part of our excellent partnership with Health Monitor Network. This relationship provides our membership the opportunity to receive exceptional patient-education benefits, including complimentary copies of Health Monitor magazine, access to Health Monitor Network’s multiple websites and other tools and resources. The partnership demonstrates our commitment to facilitate patient dialogue,” says James E. Delaney, President of the American Association of Physician Assistants. James adds, “This patient-nominated award that Health Monitor Network presents is another great way to add value and distinguish the hard work of PAs.”
